Can High Quality Be Frugal?

Shopping at thrift stores, I like to look for high-quality items that are gently used. I find it easier to locate affordable clothing by buying used items. This is one of the most frugal things I do. Along with looking for free items at the dump that others have set into the free pile.

If I can find a good Winter coat made of wool for a low cost, then why not get it? The downside is the garment may not be “current” or “trendy”. Well-made items may not always be in style but they do last a long time! I found a wool coat earlier this Winter on sale for $3. Now that’s a deal I could not resist. Just the fabric alone is worth more than that.

I think it’s better to collect clothing that will last a long time. Over the years, the clothing will retain it’s practical value than clothing I have to keep replacing over and over. Right now, I’ve gotten a lot of wonderful things from thrift stores. And, I’m sorting through it all to make my wardrobe the best I can. I still want to have well-made clothes. But, it doesn’t happen over night.

It seems like the standards for making clothes was better in the 80’s and 90’s than it is today. If you compare something like a button hole on a jacket from the 90’s versus a new jacket today, the older one looks more finished. I see a lot of clothing made from materials that feel like it will irritate my skin. Clothing that is made from wool, linen, cotton and silk are better options for me. But there is a big expense to find it brand new. I am dedicated to find these great materials to wear at an affordable price.

I enjoy finding great deals and I’m excited to curate my wardrobe as time goes on. To get a pair of jeans that fit well and are well-made allows me to donate the jeans that I can let go of that don’t fit as well or may not be as well made. As I work on de-cluttering my wardrobe, I wonder what my “style” will be. I’m a big fan of denim and boot cut jeans. I’m not sure how to put it all together but I’m looking forward to figuring it all out as time goes on.

Are you putting together a wardrobe that you love? One that makes you feel good every time you get dressed for the day. What are your favorite items to wear? Thanks so much for reading my Blog Article.

Im the same.I use a a site here in Scotland Called Vinted.Second hand and sometimes new with tags clothes. My wardrobe has doubled and i can truthfully say i have an adfiction to clothes these days.My style is girly and soarkly when i can get the items.Thrifting clithes helps kerp a ton of materials out of landfill All the gasses that build up when its all buried.🤢Keep thriftingvand forget the trends. You do you gurl 😜

    • Good idea to “forget the trends”! I didn’t think much about clothing eventually going into a landfill, that’s a great point. Having been unable to buy clothes at times in my past, I feel very fortunate to find high quality clothing now. I don’t really know what my clothing style is, probably blue jeans and cashmere sweaters (whatever that style is called!) I used to have a job that I had to be fairly well dressed and wear makeup and do my hair daily. Life is so different now. Sometimes I miss getting dressed up but if I do that now, I have nowhere to go. So it would truly be getting dressed up just for me. But maybe I’ll give it a try and add that to my daily routine.

I feel inspired to look at my wardrobe differently. I am going to start looking at thrift stores again
I remember finding a leather jacket at a thrift store for $4
I wore it for many years.
I used to get my jeans there for 1 to $2.
My goal financially is to pay off a Home equity loan balance of $19,000. over the next 2 years, saving money everywhere I can. I’ve got my grocery budget down to $40.00 or less a week by stocking up during sales.
I am committing my plans to the Lord for guidance.

    • You can achieve your financial goal! I know for a fact you can because I paid off almost $12k in credit cards in 2 years. It was awhile back but within recent memory. During that time, I did not ever go out to eat, packed lunch for work and mostly bought food and essentials as needed. It is possible to pay back a large sum of money. I could have filed for bankruptcy but the way I looked at it was I got myself into debt and I was going to get myself out of it. Shopping at thrift stores is a really good financial decision to save money on clothing and even other household items. Buying gently used items whenever you can is a great idea! As you make progress by achieving your goal, it will increase your resilience to keep going forward.

    • Yes, buying items during “off season” periods is a great way to save money! I’m very fortunate to find nice, quality items at the thrift stores. If I ever win the lottery, I would still shop for gently used items!
