How to get your home ready for Holidays!

Do you live in a small space like me? Or maybe you live in your family’s home, renting a room or caregiving for a relative and you only have your Bedroom for privacy. In today’s article, I’m going to share some thoughts on how to make your space a happy place for the Holidays!

For the past few years on YouTube, I’ve shared how I live in a smaller home. My place still needs a few renovations but the income does not match the need. So I live according to my finances and within my means. I don’t let this stop me from celebrating the Holiday Season.

One way I get festive around my home is by collecting good deals at thrift stores. I have bought ornaments and decorations at bargain prices for the past few years. And, I shop at the dollar stores for things I cannot find used. Now I have lots of decorations to choose from to get started on Christmas 2025!

I have a 1-bedroom Trailer to decorate. But what if you don’t have your own home but maybe have a room instead. Think of your room as your special space just for you to make into a happy and festive corner of the home. In my lifetime of renting, I have also rented a room. It’s not always easy to have roommates but you can still make your Bedroom special for the holidays!

In years past, I did not even decorate because dealing with housemates and roommates could be such a hassle. If I had it to do over again, let me tell you what I would do. I would take my Bedroom and give it a good cleaning by shaking out any small rugs outside and sweeping and vacuuming. Then I’d straighten out everything I had by putting it into order. Then I would go to the dollar store or thrift store and get the smallest tabletop tree I could find and some lights. I’d start decorating there, with a small tree.

After the tree, I’d move on to adding a string of lights along the border of my Bedroom walls. If I had a difficult roommate, I would not even tell them what I was doing. Sometimes you have to keep good stuff to yourself depending on the living situation. At this point, there’s a small tree, some lights on the wall. That might be just enough decor for your Bedroom. You can adjust to your own tastes and add more if you want or keep it minimal.

The moral of this story is to celebrate the Season despite the season of life you may be facing. Not everyone is going to be happy for you when you bring joy into your space. Some may resent it and try to sabotage your happiness. Others may be indifferent. But it’s your Season to choose how to celebrate. You can decide for yourself what suits you and how you want to feel when you enter your Bedroom space!

Not having my items properly stored has been one of the biggest challenges for me in my Trailer. As I prepare for Christmas this year, I am sorting through my belongings. I’m trying on clothing, deciding if I like the fabric, the design or even the fit of the clothes. I do not have my space “together” the way I want. But what I do have is dedication to doing the best I can using what I’ve got.

Whether you live like a minimalist, have vast collections of items or maybe you’re like me and you’re trying to figure it all out … stop to setup your space the best you can for the Holidays. The time is going to pass whether you decorate it or not. So if you like to see pretty decorations for Christmas, why not go ahead and make it nice for yourself. You don’t have to have a big family to make your home nice. You can do it for you!

The holidays are not easy for all. It can actually be a difficult time for many people. Especially those who have lost loved ones, or are grieving the life they never got to have. Start where you are. Do something good for yourself. If you like decorations, put up a few. Make it special. And do it for you!

Great advice. Every year i debate about putting the tree up again. Its a lot of work but it’s so beautiful! And once it’s up, I’m so pleased w it, even if it has less ornaments than the year before. Do you have any grandkids that stop by? I hope someday you will share your story w us about how you found your home and how you budget for the future. We all have a history and I bet lots of subscribers could relate to yours! 🩵

    • You’re right about putting up the Christmas Tree! It can be a lot of work. It’s so rewarding once it’s done and I can enjoy the atmosphere created with all of the pretty ornaments. I’m looking forward to getting Christmas decorations started. One thing I’m working on is clearing things away the best I can. I wish I could be one of those folks that does a big de-clutter and it’s all done but I work differently. I do a little at a time. And celebrate the wins along the way to stay motivated. I recently decided to donate a coffee pot, and a lamp. Each decision adds up. Slowly, I’m getting my Trailer in better condition and the items I have under control. Maybe this will be the best Christmas ever! I’m so grateful to have my Trailer. When I moved here it was during a difficult time. Having a home is a Blessing. Life is so much better now. Thank God! PS – thank you for your suggestion and for your comment!
