How I avoid scammers online!

There are many people who now create an income by scamming others into believing they need money for their basic needs. When visiting the internet and social media sites, please be careful of anyone that is sharing their “struggle story” with you. It may be true. Or, it may be false. I am not saying don’t help a person in need. But I am saying it’s important to be careful, to listen closely and determine for yourself if the person has real needs or if they are just scamming. It can be very difficult in this era of technology to determine if what you are seeing is real or not. Please don’t be fooled by people who are using their home, their family members or even pets, to try to illicit sympathy in an effort to get your money. What I do is I listen to the person and take notice if something sounds out of place. Perhaps they are sharing the same struggle story over and over and trying to get the listener to empathize with their situation. If it’s consistent and on a regular basis, then I will likely conclude they are scamming. I’ve heard it called “internet begging”. It’s 2025 and there are many resources that can be applied for by someone in need. Please be careful, and do not fall for the scams. A strong indicator of scammers are links to send money. This is becoming a major issue where Senior Citizens are being targeted. Please think twice before you get scammed!

Very true. My parents are in their early 90s and receive scammer calls nearly every day. Now with AI they can actually clone your voice to sound like your loved one. Fortunately my parents are aware of this and have not been scammed. Stay safe!

    • I hear you! It’s so sad to see anyone get tricked by a scammer. I think it comes down to a person’s “code of ethics” whether they are willing to participate in misinforming or misleading others. I used to work in a sales role, got away from it because the requirement was to withhold pertinent information from the customer. That was not for me, especially when helping elderly customers. I personally thought it was ethically wrong.
